Cooloola

 

Wallum Woodland

The Cooloola area is rich in fungal diversity. Dominated by sandy soils typical of the Great Sandy National Park. Plants and their fungal mycorrhizal partners have had to adapt to these low nutrient soils. The resulting diversity of boletes in particular makes this a global hot spot for fungal diversity.
 
A species list has been compiled for the Cooloola area Cooloola Fungi List 2012 Mar.
 

QMS Site

QMS has Cooloola region site  in the Cooloola National Park which it tries to survey at least annually. To date 35 taxa have been recorded during surveys – of these 13 were named species. Lists of fungi found include Cooloola Fungi QMS 2012 Mar.
 
Survey dates: 27 June 2010, 29 February 2011, 3 March 2012, 15 June 2013, 17 May 2014, 28 Feb 2015, 23 April 2016.

Pisolthus marmoratus
These puffballs are important mycorrhizal fungi.

Boletellus emodensis is a commonly seen species and is often on the buttresses of trees.
