Dominated by sandy soils typical of the Great Sandy National Park, the plants and their fungal mycorrhizal partners of Cooloola have had to adapt to these low nutrient soils. The resulting diversity of Boletes, in particular, makes this a global hot spot for fungal diversity.

Tony is regarded as one of the foremost experts on Australian fungi, particularly toxic species. He is the author of “A Field Guide to the Fungi of Australia”.
