The Linda Garrett Reserve is a short drive to the west of Mapleton on the Blackall Ranges. The QMS undertake regular visits to the reserve, which has a wide range of mature living trees and fine collections of logs and old tree stumps that support some rare and unusual wood inhabiting fungi.
For more details, go to our page about Linda Garrett and our Calendar of Events.
Dominated by sandy soils typical of the Great Sandy National Park, the plants and their fungal mycorrhizal partners of Cooloola have had to adapt to these low nutrient soils. The resulting diversity of Boletes, in particular, makes this a global hot spot for fungal diversity.
